Our feet support every stride we take. As runners, it is important that before and after every run, we take good care of our feet. Here are a few tips for proper foot care:
1) Find a good running shoe Sure, we want the best looking shoe, but that’s not always the best option. It is important that you find a shoe that fits your foot type. Even if you know your shoe size, you should get your feet measured by a professional. Remember, each individual has a different arch type, different width, and different last shape. Running shoes should be able to address all of these needs. 2) Clean Your Feet After each run, soak your feet. Whether it be in the shower, foot bath, or via hose, it is important to clean your feet after each run. Dry your feet thoroughly, then put on a fresh pair of socks; this will help prevent development of a fungal infection. 3) Stretch Always do dynamic stretches before you go for a run as you don’t want to stretch icy cold muscles. Complete your run by static stretching while your muscles are still warm. Stretching is the most important part of your workout. All to often, we have patients come in that are suffering from overuse injuires due to lack of proper training.
